Early learning and family support in Bufulu village
BCDC is a non-profit community centre in Nkumba, Uganda. We give children from low-income families a strong start in school and help their parents build better lives.
A centre built on land given to the community
Charles Kisitu Ffulu, Nkumba Bufulu’s former parish chief and a co-founder of Nkumba University, gave part of his land so the village could have a community centre, its kitawuluzi.
Today BCDC carries on his work. From one building on Fulu Road we run a morning pre-school, weekly lessons for adults and a wellness clinic, all at fees families can manage.

Head Start for ages 3 to 5
Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm
A morning pre-school that gets children from low-income families ready for primary school. It is led by two teachers and a helper. Families pay a very low fee, which keeps them invested in their child's learning.

Lessons for adolescents, women and men
Weekly
Members sign up for weekly lessons on reaching family goals and strengthening their households. The program includes a wellness clinic covering physical, social and emotional health.

Family well-being
While children are in class
With their children at the centre each morning, stay-at-home mothers have time to look for part-time work. A small membership fee applies.

Our mission
Serve, educate, assist, promote and shape the community.
We believe that getting involved early in a child’s education, and backing their family with strong social support, equips them to pursue a better life.

We work with schools nearby so our children can continue their education at a low fee. Congratulations again to the BCDC class of 2019.
